Wolverine's movie is coming soon

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" will be coming to theatres in a couple of months. As we get closer and closer and closer to its release date, more and more is being revealed about the movie. A prequel to the popular X-Men films, "Origins" revolves around marvel's #1 killing machine, Wolverine. Wolverine's history was Marvel's biggest mystery until Paul Jenkins stepped up to pen Logan's true history in "Origin" which released in 2001. The plot of that comic series is somewhat the basis for the movie. In the movie expect to see plenty of cameos from comic book characters including Gambit, Deadpool, and Emma Frost. Hopefully this movie portrays the Wolvie that we all want to see.

Support Your Local Comic Shops

Comic book store owners are being hit hard by the economic crisis. More and more are having to close their doors as less and less people can afford the luxary of comic books. As if thats not bad enough, graphic novel collections are becoming a bigger market than there paperbound counterparts. And those are available at your popular book store chains such as Barnes and Noble and Borders. The comic store I used to go to every Wednsday, Galaxy Comics in Daly City, closed down a few years back. The business wasn't as boomin as it should've been and rent rates got too high. That is why it's of the upmost importance to support your local comic book stores for your comics, toys and especially graphic novel purchases. Watchmen on the horizon

With the Watchmen movie coming out in a few days, what better time then now to go back to the Watchmen graphic novel. Just in case you didn't know, Warner Bros. "Watchmen" movie is based on DC comics "Watchmen" series. Written by Alan Moore and drawn by Dave Gibbons "Watchmen" was originally a 12 issue series that began print in 1986. "Watchmen" follows the lives of regular people with no powers standing together to save humanity from its own evils. However, it's not just that black and white, expect to see a variety of twists. Watchmen has been acclaimed by crtitics around the world. Winner of the Hugo Award and considered one of TIME MAGAZINE'S 100 best novels, the "Watchmen" movie has some pretty big shoes to fill. In fact, director Zack Snyder took on the job because he felt no one else could pull it off right. Wolverine Grows Old and Settles Down?

In Old Man Logan, a Wolverine story Arc written by none other than Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, the team that brought the Marvel Universe into a Civil War, Wolverine has given up his animal identity, simply settling for Logan. In the opening issue 50 years have passed since "the day the villains won," as it is reffered to in the story. Wolverine has settled as a family man/ farmer struggling with rent. This is a huge problem when your landlords are none other than the Hulk's granchildren. Hawkeye, now blind and old but still with flare, exploits this oppertunity and pays Logan to guide him across the country. However, the country has been split into six sectors, each run by a differnet super villian. Logan accepts the job but adamantly tells Hawkeye that he will not pop his claws. And that is how the story kicks off. If you are a Wolverine fan than this story has plenty of elements for you to enjoy. For starters, in issue five we see why Wolverine gave up his name. This is definitely a story worth reading.

DC at Comic Con

With the wrap up of New York's Comic Con it's not to hard to find information concerning DC and what they let out there. One of the biggest things they referenced without giving up to much info for was Blackest Night. For those that don't know, Blackest Night revolvews around the Green Lantern. However, not just the Green Lanterns but a whole new spectrum of colored lanterns as well. Aside from Blackest Night, another hot topic was Final Crisis. Crisis wrapped up leaving fans with mixed feelings. Those same fans thought they would get info revealing what really happened but all they got were half witted answers and dodge attempts, as everything DC has done leads into what they have planned to do. However, one great announcement they had was theat they are reducing the cost of their comics from 2.99 to 1.99. There was also a good amount of Flash talk but the only thing said for certain was that Rebirth would return. I guess only time will tell what will really happen in the DCU

Marvel Comic Con Announcements

Though I personally did not attend Comic Con, I was able to attend some of the live blogs taking place during some of Marvel's panels. I have also scoured marvel.com for some of there announcements. For starters, it was announced during the X-Men panel that big things are happening to Cyclops, especially with Emma concerning her place in the Dark Illuminati. Lyla Miller was also another hot topic. For those unfamilar with Miller, she was introduced during House of M and went on to work with X-Factor. During the Messiah Complex story arc she was stuck in the future, and none have heard from her since. However, Peter David(who writes X-Factor) says she will eventually return but would not give away any details. Another hot subject was the Dark Reign panel. With all that has been happening these last few months, this was one of the more popular panels. However, a lot of the panel centered on various Dark Reign mini's. One in particular stood out, Dark Reign: Young Avengers. Much like making a Dark Avengers team, Osborn also recruits a team of Young "dark" Avengers. In the mini series these new Avengers will have to deal with the original team. Well, that is all for now but stay tuned for DC at comic con on Wed.

Hulk Vs.

The two newest additions to Marvel's animated feature film collection are Hulk vs. Wolverine and Hulk vs. Thor. These two movies are available in a collectors pack titled Hulk VS. If you are a comic fan both of these movies are definitely worth checking out. Hulk vs. Thor is a little more on the cartoony side of the collection as it offers heavy fights but nothing to gory. The plot of it this film being that Loki and Enchantress separate the Hulk from Bruce Banner and then send the mindless, angry beast to destroy Asgard. Hulk vs. Wolverine on the other hand is everything you would expect to see in a film of that title. This movie has lots and lots of action with blood spill. Four other major Wolverine villains also make an appearance, playing a major role in the film but I don't want to spoil it for anybody. However, I will say that this movie alone makes the collectors pack worth picking up.
